Coming up over the Amstel is one of Amsterdam's most romantic landmarks.The Magere Brug.The famous white wooden drawbridge.The current bridge was built in 1934.But the very first bridge on this spot dates back to 1691.That early bridge was so narrow, Amsterdammers nicknamed it the Magere Brug.The 'Skinny Bridge'.The name stuck.Today, it's strung with around twelve hundred lights.They give the bridge a wonderfully warm glow at night.Since 2003, it's open only to pedestrians and cyclists.The middle section opens several times a day, to let boats pass.There's even a local story that a kiss on or under the bridge guarantees eternal love.That hasn't hurt its romantic reputation.
